Compare costs on a like-for-like basis

Choose a loan model and enter the full terms for Offer A and Offer B independently. The tool compares estimated debt costs and repayment paths, while allowing each offer’s schedule to be selected and exported. Extra payments are excluded from this workflow so the offers are compared on their stated terms.

Lower total cost does not always mean better value

Different starting balances trigger a warning rather than an automatic cheapest-loan recommendation. A smaller loan can cost less simply because you borrow less. Even with equal balances, affordability, fees, final balloons and contractual conditions matter. For mortgages, debt-cost comparisons exclude property expenses; first all-in housing payments and repayment-period outflows are presented separately.

Worked comparison

For the same $25,000 principal and 60-month term, Offer A at 8.5% with no upfront fee has a modeled regular payment of $512.91 and debt cost of $30,774.80. Offer B at 7.5% with a $500 separately paid fee has a payment of $500.95 and debt cost of $30,556.92. These are hypothetical terms, not current offers.
